Groovy Soca spicing up Crop-Over

Posted by bajanfuhlife.com on July 17, 2008

CROP-OVER 2008 is shaping up to be sweet fuh days.

The controversy that normally spices up the brew is not so evident this year, but the predominantly ragga soca tracks on the airwaves are contributing to the tasty flavour.

Anderson Blood Armstrong got the jump on everyone when he released his Blood Ties album on May Day.

The album hit stores shortly after and others have been filtering in ever since. Most of the stock hit the stores over the weekend, and although as many albums are not out as at this time last year, tourists and locals alike can purchase their favourite albums to add to their collections.

Val’s Music World (formerly No. 1 Record Shop) has ten albums to date and expects another four in the coming weeks.

The other leading shops, Power Station and A&B Music, have six and seven, respectively.

Of the available albums, Blood Ties, Feels Nas, Loaded and Mo Fire Blazing are among top sellers.

And that has everything to do with the fact that some of the hottest tracks are on those albums.

A check with the stations showed that Edwin, Natahlee, Pong, Contone, Smokey Burke, Biggie Irie, Li’l Rick and Unda Dawg, Peter Ram and Fakaroo, Rupee, Answar, Blood, Patrice Roberts featuring Machel Montano, Stabby, Fraud Squad, Biggie Irie, John Mohameed and Nard were among the most heavily rotated songs out there.
