Rihanna wins two Moonmen

rihanna.jpgBAJAN MUSIC star Rihanna took two top awards when the world-renowned MusicTelevision (MTV) hosted its annual video music awards ceremony in Las Vegas, Nevada, Sunday night.

The 19-year-old, whose 2007 single Umbrella spent ten weeks at No. 1 in Britain, took MTV’s Single Of The Year award, beating the likes of Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Kanye West and Amy Winehouse.

Rihanna also scooped the Video Of The Year award, also for Umbrella.

“Wow! Video Of The Year,” she said. “This was definitely the most important one for me of the night . . . the most unexpected for me.”

Rihanna, who first took the world by storm in 2005, performed during the ceremony, telecast worldwide via the BBC, ABC, MSNBC and other major networks.

Yesterday evening she appeared on the first Tyra Banks Show for the season in New York.

Other big winners were Timberlake, who took four awards, including Top Male Artist, Fergie who was Best Female Artist, Beyoncé and Shakira who took the award for the Most Earth-shattering Collaboration for Beautiful Liar, Gym Class Heroes who won Best New Artists and Fall Out Boy winning Best Group.
