Montano for Cohobblopot
COHOBBLOPOT 2008 will have a non- Barbadian flavour, but it will remain a National Cultural Foundation (NCF) production.
Top Trinidadian act Machel Montano has been booked for the August 3 show, which will be held at Kensington Oval. It is understood that Machel’s fee is in the region of US$30 000.
Negotiations with another Trinidadian act were ongoing.
There was a suggestion that Cohobblopot would be outsourced to an independent producer and out of the hands of the NCF but, according to the source, no bids were submitted.
The NCF will be working with Richard Haynes’ South Central Marketing on promotions.
Except for the Pic-O-De-Crop Finals, which will have an appearance by Trinidad’s calypso monarch Sugar Aloes, Cohobblopot will be the only other NCF-produced event with non-Barbadian acts.
Aloes‘ appearance is part of a reciprocal arrangement with the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians Organisation (TUCO), which sees an exchange performance in which the Barbadian monarch appears at Calypso Fiesta, the TUCO-produced calypso semi-finals in Trinidad.
The Pic-O-De-Crop Semi-finals and the Party Monarch finals are supposed to have all local acts this year.
Further details on Cohobblopot are expected to be given at a Press on Thursday June12th 2008.
