Dancehall superstar Shaggy officially kicks off his first tour of the year on Saturday, January 17, journeying to the Cayman Islands. He then heads to West Palm Beach on Sunday for Jazzy T’s Birthday Bash, before going down yonder to Australia for the Ragga Muffin Festival starting on January 24, followed by stops in New Zealand, and finally ending in Dubai in February.

Shaggy started the year by lending his star power to a number of charities to help children, both in Jamaica and the U.S. He hosted a benefit concert in Kingston on January 3, 2009, where everyone from Macy Gray to Elephant Man helped raise JA $27 million to aid the Bustamante Hospital for Children in Kingston, Jamaica.

Before that, Shaggy themed up with RHONA FOX, INC. to donate toys to the Children’s Unit of Brookdale Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. The toys were sponsored by New York-based toy retailer Toy Wishes, who were happy to join forces with Shaggy and FOX INC. to bring smiles to the faces of the patients at their annual Christmas party.

Shaggy has enjoyed a prolific 2008, releasing his album independently in November, going #1 in Germany with “Feel The Rush”  – which topped charts across Europe as the theme song of  the 2008 Euro Championships, and ending the year on a high note with Intoxication receiving the Grammy nod for “Best Reggae Album.”

“I’m very happy for all the nominees,” states the international icon. The Grammy Awards is music’s highest honor and I’m very proud to be a nominee.” Shaggy faces competition from Elephant Man, Heavy D, Burning Spear, Lee “Scratch” Perry and Burning Spear, when the awards air on February 8, 2009 on CBS Television.
